Few years ago (2001) during IT fair I have came across a high image compression technology. 40 MB TIF image, after compression took only 120 Kb space and after decompression had came back to 40 MB without any losses. We can compare it to cd and mp3 audio file, depending on the treatment we can have high quality file with high compression. We have introduced decompression at Bilder. At the moment, we are building desktop application for clients to allow them to compress their images. In effect, no matter what connection will be used, we will be able to send TIF, RAW, taken by for example Alfa 900 at the size of over 73MB, in only seconds, using bildero.

After quick search of available names we have decided to name Media Server – BILDERO. Bildero means PIXEL in esperanto. Pixel is a smallest element that appears at LCD or CRT screen which ideally fits our zoom technology.

We have added a zoom application for Media Server. Every person that has taken a picture knows exactly what zoom option is for. Media Server is a link between image server technology and zoom option. We are working with images which are converted to mpx format. Zoom server is an application which uses flash player or js which allows us to enlarge parts of the image in real time.

Typical cameras are taking 5 MB images with resolution over 3000 px. This is way more than average LCD screen and that is why nearly everyone has to reduce the image before uploading it on a server. In effect, we have plenty of bad quality pictures in online shops all over the Internet. In case of technical equipment we look at parameters and the image can only be the additional selling point, but when it comes to the clothes, jewelery, furnitures, etc – the image is a key factor. We want to see every detail of the product that we are going to buy and if the shop can provide a high quality picture, we are going to buy an item in a different shop. The American market has acknowledged the necessity of high quality pictures with zoom option, a very long time ago.
